Tóm tắt: Improving the profitability of village broiler farming through the use of locally available feedstuffs has been a high priority in the Papua New Guinea livestock sector. The rising cost of imported ingredients used in commercial feeds has been threatening the viability of local poultry production. This project evaluated the productivity and profitability of broilers and laying hens on-farm, testing various feeding options that incorporated local ingredients. Indigenous and commercial poultry breeds were assessed. Economic analyses demonstrated that the greatest potential for providing smallholder poultry farmers with cheaper feed is to encourage the manufacture of feed through regionally based mini mills.
