Abstract: The article focuses on factors behind land subsidence in the Mekong delta in Vietnam, and projects that are examining ways to slow the subsidence. It states Vietnamese and Dutch scientists met at Can Tho University to launch the five-year Rise and Fall project to gain a better understanding on what is driving subsidence at the Mekong delta and strategies to reverse it. It mentions factors behind the subsidence may include levees preventing sediments from spilling into the delta and water wells
